Brent Levin '05 on NBC's "School Pride"

Teach for America volunteer Brent Levin '05 fell in love with Lanier Elementary School when he began teaching special education there last year. So did the staff of NBC's "School Pride," which gave Lanier a much-needed free makeover and moved Levin to tears in the process.

Brent's classmate, Garrett Schabb '05, was present for July screening in Baton Rouge.

“NBC put its best foot forward and gave the teachers and the students something that they really  deserved. The producers and hosts of the show were all really nice, and had a genuine respect and  love for Brent. They caught wind of his contagious enthusiasm for the school, and were really happy  to help out.”

“Brent worked all week on other parts of the school, but he wasn’t allowed to see what they had done  to his classroom, so it was a really great moment when he finally saw what they did for him. We also  learned that over the course of the week, more than 2,400 people came to Lanier to volunteer their  time and effort to renew the school,” wrote Garrett.

“The school got two new playgrounds, three new Lanier school signs, a new auditorium and cafeteria,  a new computer lab, a vegetable garden, a new teachers’ lounge, and new classrooms with  state-of-the-art, touch-screen computers and Promethean interactive whiteboards.”

“It was an amazing time, and we are really proud of Brent and the other teachers at Lanier who do  incredible work on limited resources,” Garrett added.
