社区 Celebrates Rosenberg 校园 Green

On Spirit Day, a day traditionally reserved for orange and black, the McDonogh community celebrated the dedication of the Rosenberg 校园 Green—an open, grassy area that unites the McDonogh campus. 周五, November 7, the campus was humming with excitement as the community celebrated the link that joins the major pieces of McDonogh’s campus master 计划.

Headmaster Charlie Britton began the ceremony by thanking Henry 罗森博格,小. ‘48 for making the campus green a reality. “Mr. 罗森博格 devotion to this school runs deep, and he epitomizes McDonogh spirit,” Britton 说. “He shows his McDonogh pride whenever he has the opportunity, and he gives back to the school because he believes McDonogh helped him become the man he is today. That is true McDonogh spirit.”

The Rosenberg 校园 Green connects the more established parts of campus with the recently opened Naylor Building and Edward St. 约翰 Student Center, and it creates a vista to the 约翰 McDonogh Stadium. 亚瑟 Adler ’78, President of the Board of Trustees, explained that the area not only serves as the hub of campus, it is intended to be a place to hang out and play as 好吧. The Rosenberg 校园 Green also includes Memorial Court, which is being refurbished and will be rededicated for Memorial Day 2015.

Mr. Rosenberg, who was thrilled that the entire school community was present for the dedication, 说 of the green, “It is more beautiful than I ever 想象. I think that the only thing that will make it better is seeing you all out 在这里 having fun, hanging out with friends, and hopefully doing a little studying, 太!”

He credited McDonogh for his successful career saying, “My teachers not only gave me knowledge, they boosted my self-confidence and gave me the foundation I needed to go out and pursue my dreams. The truth is, McDonogh set me up for the successes I have experienced in my life.”

Before the ceremony ended, the crowd of more than 1,500 pulled out commemorative orange kazoos and played “Happy Birthday” to Mr. Rosenberg, who was also celebrating his 85th birthday. 然后,先生. 罗森博格和 his wife had the honor of riding in the first golf cart in the annual Spirit Parade.
